FO and Frogging

I have another FO, I actually finished this a couple of weeks ago but have just been very lazy! It's Polly from Kim Hargreaves' Thrown Together book.

I used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Chunky from my stash. It was very easy to knit but I felt like I was seaming it forever.

I have also decided to ditch some projects that have on the needles at present. I don't know which ones yet, but I think I just like the excitement of starting something new and don't think about whether I'm actually going to finish it or not. So really I am just wasting my time if I'm not going to finish it, right?

I'm full of good intentions, but I never carry those through either!

How Time Flies

I can't believe it's been over a month since I last posted - I don't know where the time has gone. September was a busy month - Alex turned five and started "big school", as he calls it, Isobel started playgroup and we had a day out at Thomasland (Drayton Manor). Phew!

Now that Alex is at school my day is hectic - drop offs at playgroup and school, pick one up, watch the clock until it's time to collect the other one, in between pack the parcels for the post office, make a feeble attempt at some housework, oh and some sneaky knitting!

I can't count the number of projects I have on the go at the minute - I just don't have enough fingers (or toes), but that doesn't mean you can't cast on something else does it? So here it is...

...it's called Adoration, and it's a lovely little tunic dress for Isobel. It's a pattern from the new Louisa Harding book Kindred and I'm using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, which is an excellent substitute for the Louisa Harding Kashmir Baby yarn.

Off now for a cuppa, some TV and some knitting. Bliss!

This has been finished for quite a while, but I couldn't find the photos...

It's Juliet by Zephyr Style. There are loads of lovely finished versions of this out there, although I haven't actually tried mine on yet! I'm not too sure about the large button fastening shown on the pattern, so I just temporarily threaded this ribbon through. What do you think?

I also managed to use some chunky yarn up from my stash!

I have got more FO's to post, just need to get some good pics.

In the meantime, have a look at Spiderman and the Butterfly!

...or so to speak. I'm talking about Sirdar Wash and Wear Double Crepe DK.

I was a little hesitant about this yarn at first - I remember using it years ago when I was first learning to knit. I remember that it had a really crunchy texture (which wasn't very nice) and it seemed to stick to the needles. But all these years later I found that there were some really nice designs using this yarn, so I decided to give it another try. I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised, so much so that it is currently my favourite yarn to knit with! It's actually lovely and soft, has a great colour range and knit wise it shows off cables and textured patterns beautifully. Add to that that it has a great metreage per ball and is excellent value, what's not to love?

This is my first finished garment - its Sirdar leaflet 8777, and can be made with long or capped sleeves. This version only uses 3 balls, and is very quick and simple to knit? What do you think?

And as I said earlier, true to it's word, it washes and wears beautifully, loves the tumble dryer and also seems to soften up just a little bit more once it's been in there.

I hope to have more Wash and Wear Crepe DK FO's very soon.

It's a FO Frenzy!

Most of these have been finished for ages - I just haven't got around to posting them. I will try and make more of an effort to keep things up to date.

So here's just a quick round up...

Rusted Root by Zephyr Style. I love this design and have seen some fantastic finished versions of it, however I hate mine. It makes me look like an American footballer with huge shoulders. It's currently waiting to be recycled into something else. I used Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran, which was lovely to knit with. Better luck next time!

Next we have the Florence sweater and Duchess dress from Louisa Harding's Enchanted Garden children's book, and Smockie from Sublime Book 606. These are two gorgeous books for children and I have already knitted a few of their designs. The dress and sweater both use Kashmir Aran and the Sublime uses Baby Cashmere Merino Silk DK. These have all been worn loads and have washed really well which is just what you need for kid's clothes.

Here is Isobel modelling her Iced Gem cardigan, also from Enchanted Garden. I think this one must be her favourite - she always wants to wear it! Good hair Isobel!

A very special picture

This photo was taken on 21st October 2007. On the left is my brother David, right is my Dad and in the middle my son Alex. We were visiting them in the North East that weekend. We didn't know it at the time but it was to be one of the last photos taken not only of my Dad but my brother as well. Sadly my Dad suffered another stroke not quite two weeks after this photo was taken, and he died on 27th November 2007. My brother David was the strongest one of us and it always stuck in my mind that he said to me "life goes on Joanne". Although I found it hard I tried to remember what he said, and keep going for my family. None of us however, were prepared for the shocking news early morning on 11th January 2008 that David had died. He was only 39 years old and seemingly fit and healthy. He just went to work the night before and never came home. We have been given an indication of what happened but we don't know all the facts yet, except that tragically it could have happened at any time. As far as we know he didn't suffer.

I am crying my eyes out as I write this, and if David or my Dad could see this they would probably be embarrased by my very public display of emotion.

So, once again, I try to remember David's words "life goes on Joanne", although it is so much harder to do this time around.

So, should I do the housework, that desperately needs doing? Or should I make headway on the 15 (yes, that's right, I said 15!) projects that I currently have on the needles?

I do apologise for my lack of blogging - there has been so much going on lately that updating Don't Talk Just Knit is only one on a very long list of things to do. However I have managed to fit in some knitting (as always! I can live with the dust for another day!).

Here are a few pictures to explain the goings on...

...Angora Rabbits, LLamas and Sheep at the Woolfest, Cumbria. I managed to make a few purchases while I was there (see below), and also enjoyed some delicious ice cream made from ewe's milk. Yummy!

I also have a couple of FO's to show. First up, a summer cardigan knitted with Debbie Bliss Cathay.

I love this cardigan, and it was really easy and quick to knit. I used 10 balls, and this is what I had left over...

...I was getting quite worried towards the end!

As Promised...

...finished objects!

First up, we have a sort of make up as you go along kind of garment.

It started out as a top down raglan capelet pattern that I found free on the net, which then developed into a sort of longer cardigan with front fastening. The picture isn't very good, but then I don't mind because the yarn is some cheap acrylic chunky I had in my stash. I like the basic idea of it but I don't think I'll be wearing it purely because it's already fluffing up terribly!

And then we have this...

...based on Shoreline, from Louisa Harding's Beachcomber Bay Design Collection. I decided to make it into an a-line shape and added a lace pattern border. It's knitted with Nautical Cotton, which gives a really nice knitted finish.

Presenting FO#3...

...a pattern from my vast collection, knitted with a cotton blend yarn that I found in my stash! I finished the neckband off with Glisten by Louisa Harding.

I do have yet another FO to show, but I seem to have lost the picture! I'll save that one for another say.

I have so many things on the needles, that if I was to list them all they would need their own blog!

I have a couple of things nearing completion amongst the many half finished projects lurking in my craft corner (also known as the sofabed!), so I hope to be back with a finished object soon.

I'm So Predictable!

Here at Don't Talk Just Knit, as per usual, I couldn't stay faithful to one WIP and had to not only start, but finish, another. And here it is...

...Elvira from Louisa Harding's Hummingbirds. It's knitted using Glisten, which I had never used before but now that I have I want to use it again. It's very easy to work with, knits up quickly and the finished effect is just stunning. The pictures don't do it justice! This particular design is a very quick and easy knit, and the cute little sleeves are just so clever.

Of course I have already started another project...

...Veraguan, also from Hummingbirds and knitted in Mariposa, one of Louisa's new yarns for Summer 2007. I'm using the same shade as in the book which is #6 Violet. I've already finished the back and I'm halfway through the front.

Now that the baby has gone for her nap I should really get on with some housework. Or shall I just do a few rows of knitting before I start?

I finished Enchanted just in time to wear to knitting group last night. Actually, she has been finished longer than that, I just hadn't gotten around to sewing her sleeves in. Here she is...

...what do you think? Of course, the fact that I hadn't quite finished her yet didn't mean that I wouldn't make a start on Butterfly. Here's a progress shot so far...

...the new summer books from Louisa Harding called Swallowtails and Hummingbirds. Louisa has also launched three new yarns for the summer and new shades in her existing range. I'll post details of these soon. I don't know how long I'll be able to stay faithful to Butterfly!

Presenting Casablanca...

...of all the knitting blogs in all the world she ended up on mine! (very naff I know!).

I finished her on Tuesday and wore her out to lunch on Wednesday. The design is Casablanca from Winter's Muse Classics by Louisa Harding and I used up some yarn from my stash. It was an easy pattern to follow and I love the finished results so I'm planning to knit another one using the Grace silk and wool yarn.

I'm cracking on with my Enchanted sweater and hope to have it finished soon. But of course that doesn't mean I can't start something else in the meantime, and it's going to be this...

I haven't posted for a while due to family circumstances, so I sat last night furiously blogging away to update you all on my finished projects (because I do have some to show)! Then I somehow accidentally deleted the lot and I foolishly hadn't saved any of it as a draft! So I'm doing it all again!

But onto the knitting. Remember this?

It's the Faye sweater from Louisa Harding's Winter's Muse Classics. I managed to finish mine in time for my wedding anniversary weekend away to London (no kids - hurrah!) and I loved wearing it. It is an easy knit but the cable pattern keeps it interesting. I made mine using the Natural (01) shade of Kashmir Aran as used in the book, and I can certainly recommend this yarn. And here she is in all of her glory...

...lovely isn't she? I also have this to show you...

...it's Ravenscar from Louisa's Winter's Muse Landscapes. It's knitted with Kashmir Aran and one of her new yarns called Liberty, which is a mohair blend boucle yarn. I couldn't wait to try this yarn out and I wasn't disappointed. It knits up quickly on 6mm needles, is light and easy to work with and it has a subtle self striping effect. It comes in a lovely colour range but again I used the same shades as the book. I had a few compliments when I wore this one.

I'm currently working on Enchanted from Winter's Muse Portraits, using Kimono Angora Pure and Kashmir DK. Here's a picture...

...can you see that I'm not using the same colours as in the book? That's the back finished, and I'm working on a sleeve now.

I have one last FO to show you. Here it is...

...it's a scoop neck sweater from French Phildar magazine. I first saw this design here and loved it. A friend living in France ordered the magazine for me from here and I translated the pattern to English using the Knitting Fog French Dictionary here. I substituted the yarn used in the pattern and I am really pleased with the results. I haven't worn it yet though because just as I was stitching it up my husband treated me to a Colour Analysis Class and I now know that dark brown doesn't suit me. Oh well, never mind...I'll just have to buy more yarn and knit another one!

Christmas Has Come Early!

Look what I got today!!! Goodies!!!

First up, two new books - Modern Classics by Louisa Harding and Erika Knight's Collectables Classic. Modern Classics uses yarns from Louisa's range and Collectables uses a selection of Rowan and Debbie Bliss yarns. I want to knit just about everything in these books, but the Louisa Harding one is definitely my fave! Here are a selection of the designs in the book...

...they use Kimono Angora, Kimono Angora Pure, Impression, Kashmir Aran and Kashmir DK.

Next up, we have this...

...it's Rowan Tapestry in Pot Pourri. I'm going to use it to knit this gorgeous cape for my baby Isobel...

...this pattern was published in 1976! I found it in the local church book shop and I think it's fab!

I'm almost finished the first sleeve on my Faye sweater - I hope to be posting this as a finished item soon.

My Winter Wardrobe Progress

I promised some photographs of what I have been up to, and here they are...

...first up are my lovely toasty gloves knitted in Louisa Harding's Impression yarn.

They were really easy to knit and they only take one 50 gram ball. Mind you, this is all I had left of that ball when I was finished...

...I used Lilac shade number 6, and you can find the pattern here.

Next up is the Faye sweater, from the Winters Muse Classics book.

I am using Kashmir Aran, in shade number 1, which is a gorgeous winter white colour. The pattern is really easy to follow, and this yarn knits up beautifully. It has a lovely soft feel to it and it shows the cable pattern off a treat! I have already finished the back...

...and will probably get the front finished tonight while watching the box. I really want to take this away with me to London in December and I'm sure it will be finished by then. I hope so, because there are loads more designs I want to knit from Louisa's new books!

You have got no idea how much I have been looking forward to receiving these books, and finally they are here! There are three new books for Autumn/Winter by Louisa Harding, called Winter's Muse Classics, Portraits and Landscapes, and the designs are fantastic. So much to knit and so little time! Looks like I'll have to cut down on my eating, sleeping and housework if I want to be wearing this this Autumn... (Vertigo from Winter's Muse Classics)

and this... Haworth from Winter's Muse Landscapes

and not forgetting Mandolin, from Winter's Muse Portraits , and that's just for starters!

Another lovely new book from Louisa is The Magical World According to Miss Millie, with designs for three to ten year olds...I can feel my "things to knit" list becoming as long as my arm!

Keep checking back for news on Louisa's new yarns. Now, if only I can figure out how to knit in my sleep...

The 60's Are Swinging Again!

I've finished the 60's eyelet top, and I love it! The picot edges were a bit time consuming, and the sewing up had to be extra neat to match up the eyelets but it was worth the effort. I finished it on Wednesday night, and I wore it on Thursday. You definately need to wear something underneath it though, with all those holes! Here it is - see what you think...

I love the diagonal eyelet pattern, so I'm thinking about making another one with sleeves. It looks better on me than it does in the photo, but then I would say that wouldn't I!

At long last!

Remember the Klaralund Sweater, my first posted project? Well I finally finished it! And I'm very pleased with the result, although I haven't gotten around to trying it on yet. Here it is...

...what do you think? I have some Wendy Fusion self striping yarn to knit another one, but next time I plan to knit the body on a circular needle in the round, which cuts out two of the seams.

Another finished object - I wish it was mine!

I had wanted to post this yesterday, but I couldn't find the photo on my laptop. Eventually I did find it, and here it is...

...it is a pattern from a Summer issue of Vogue Knitting (I can't remember which one), and it is made from Colinette Giotto. The shade used here is Lichen, and it was knitted by my friend Catherine. The photo doesn't do it justice!

What I did on my holidays...

...lots of shopping and some knitting.

I've been away to stay with my parents for a few days, so I had a chance to visit some of my old yarn shop haunts. I came home with all of this...

...of course there's more than just these few balls. I have some projects in mind, but I don't know when I'll get around to starting them.

I also received these fantastic stitch markers just before I went away...

...I have a set of sheep and some border collies. They are so cute that I don't want to use them! I bought them here, and the talented young lady who makes them takes custom orders.

I have also finished the back and front of the 1965 Eyelet Top. I have knitted the neckband, but still need to finish the armbands and stitch it up. Here it is so far...

...I think it will be lovely when I finally get it finished. Also waiting to be finished is the Klaralund sweater. All the pieces are there, they just need stitching up.

I'm back in the real world now, so the knitting will be getting done as and when!

Back To The 1960's...

...I'm making slow progress with the knitting lately, but I have managed to finish the back of my Picot Edged Top, from the 1965 Woman Magazine knitting supplement. It's an easy pattern so I'm trying to crack on with it while the weather is still decent!

I'm quite pleased with how it's going so far which is more than I can say about this...

...this is Atacama Alpaca by Araucania. I bought this yarn with my birthday money to make this...

...the T Shirt Sweater from Ella Rae Designs. I can say that this yarn is gorgeous, knits up beautifully and comes in some fab colours, but I just realised that the size I was knitting was going to be far too big. I had checked my tension before I started but something had gone amiss somewhere. So I will start it again soon but in a smaller size.

Finished Objects and Stashbusting!

I have a couple of new finished objects to report. First up is a baby hat and cardigan, a present for my niece's new arrival - here it is...

...I used Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. Although it looks blue here, it is actually more of a violet colour.

My second finished object is a One Skein Wonder by Glampyre. I have had this pattern for a while, and I have seen so many other knitters having made one that I couldn't put it off any longer. I had to have one! I decided to use some Tivoli Pure Wool Aran that I have had in my stash for years. I am really pleased with this one and I have already worn it twice! Here it is (apologies for the dodgy photo!) ...

...and I have already seen the perfect yarn to knit another one of these here. So many other things to finish first though!

Finished Objects!

I can't believe it's been nine days since my last post - how time flies when you are knitting!

I finally got around to stitching up Orangina, and it definitely looks much better after a good pressing with the steam iron. See what you think...

...and there's more, because I also finished the Waterlily Top. And here it is...

...the finished article. I really wanted to wear this to a party I was going to, so I made a real effort to get it done. It was an easy knit, I followed the pattern with a couple of minor modifications. I decided to do a three needle cast off on the shoulders rather than sewing the seams. I think that this worked really well. I also didn't use the provisional cast on, because for the life of me I couldn't suss out how to do it. This meant that I had to undo the bottom cast on edge from scratch to do the fancy cast off. It was a bit of a nightmare, and took ages so I would do it differently next time. But I did wear it to the party and I was really pleased with it!

Of course, finishing one project means that I have to immediately start something else, and here it is...

...a picot edged top with a spiral eyelet pattern. Not a very good picture I'm afraid, but then it is taken from a knitting supplement that came free with Woman Magazine, sometime in 1965! I have already started knitting it, and I am using one of my favourite yarns, Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino, in a lovely sort of indigo/ violet shade. Here is the progress so far...

I just couldn't wait to start...

...knitting my Waterlily Top in Rose Garden Giotto. Hence I stayed up knitting until 2 am. Not good when you have two small children to look after. But it was worth it, and here is the progress so far...

It knits up really quickly, but you have to be careful not to split it with the needles. And I'm really pleased with the colours too.

And there's more. I picked up some Cygnet Wool Rich Chunky yarn while out shopping today which I plan to use for the Streakers Shrug, also from the Spring 2006 Interweave Knits. The colour is described as Bordeaux, but I think it's more of a Mulberry colour myself. See what you think...

...this is the yarn. It looks a lot more pink in this photo, but it isn't this bright in the flesh. And here is the Streakers Shrug.

It's an easy knit - made in one piece, with lacy cuffs knitted on at the end.

I wish I could say that I'll finish other projects before I start this one, but knowing me I probably won't be able to wait!

...and I just can't hide it!

It was my knitting night out earlier tonight (or yesterday as it's now past midnight), and my knitting buddy Catherine has had a delivery from Colinette. I'm so excited because it contains three hanks of Giotto for me! Hurrah! And here it is...

It is shade 154 Rose Garden, and it's gorgeous. And she has kindly wound one of the skeins for me so I have got no excuse not to start knitting it, right? And this is what it's going to be...

It's Katy Ryan's Waterlily Top from the Spring issue of Interweave Knits. So while my photos have been uploading I have got my needles ready to knit my tension square. After all, I need to get this top started and finished ASAP, because the Summer is so short here in the UK!

Decisions, decisions...

I feel like I need to try using some Sari Ribbon by Louisa Harding, but can't make my mind up about what to knit.

I have narrowed it down to two designs, the Prairie sweater from the Gathering Roses Design Collection, or the Wide Lace Scarf from the Gathering Roses Accessories Collection.

I think I am leaning towards Prairie, but I will probably adapt it slightly to use eyelet holes in the chevron design to make it a little less stiff. I have had a practice with the Prairie pattern, using the eyelet holes, and this is what it looks like...

...not a very good picture but you can get the general idea. It's a very easy design - there is no shaping involved so it is basically just four rectangles. What could be easier?

I will get around to finishing it soon - and I'll post another picture then.

It was easy to knit, but I decided not to knit the ribbing in the round as instructed, because I find ribbing really boring, especially with so many stitches.

I have seen loads of other knitting bloggers showing this, so I thought I would have a go.

This is a very easy knit, and I should have finished this ages ago, but two small children cause havoc to my knitting time!

After having seen loads of blogs dedicated to knitting, after several attempts, I have finally created a blog, and this is my first entry.

Hi, I am Joanne, a frazzled mum of 2 - Alexander (2.5) and Isobel (6 weeks today!), wife to Neil and supplier of dog treats to my two Border Collies, Sophie and Floss. Photos of all to follow, once I figure that bit out!
